Monolithic zirconia crowns: material and suitability
A monolithic zirconia crown is made from a single block of zirconia, with no metal inside and no ceramic layer on top. It is strong and looks good.
Why zirconia
Zirconia has no metal in it, so there is no dark line near the gum. It is very strong, so the crown can be made thin and gentle on your tooth. It suits both front and back teeth.
How it is made
The crown is milled by a machine from a digital model of your tooth, then coloured to the right shade. This makes it very precise, and the shape is fitted to your bite.
Worth knowing
The colour of monolithic zirconia is good, but it can look a little less lively than a crown with a ceramic layer. If you are very particular about how your front teeth look, talk it over with your dentist.
